General questions

  • Is a LAN cable necessary to operate the Web-Electrical-Socket?
    No, you need this only for the first-time configuration.
  • Can the Web-Electrical-Socket also be controled by Smartphone or Tablet?
    Yes, with every terminal which disposes of an actual Internet browser.
  • How high is the consumption of the Web-Electrical-Socket if no devices are connected?
    The consumption amounts only 2.5W if no socket is switched on.
  • May the temperature sensor be immersed in water?
    The 10m/20m temperature sensor can be safely immersed in water, the 3m temperature sensor should not be immersed in water.
  • How large the log files can be?
    The size of the log files can be differently. When a certain size is reached, the log file is truncated and the latest entries remain. In the log file for the temperature it goes back up to 365 days. In the log files for the switching and e-mail these will be reduced to the last 500 lines. (at least software version 3.2.0 (. x) is needed)
  • Will the log entries remain even after rebooting?
    All log entries and temperatures remain even after rebooting. (at least software version 3.2.0 (. x) is needed)

Router

  • Are there any routers that are not recommended?
    If you want to operate the Websteckdose via Wi-Fi, we generally recommend no NETGEAR router. According to information provided by telephone these routers allow only MAC addresses that begin with 00.
    For the following NETGEAR routers wireless connection could not be established successfully:

    • dg834gt, mn802t, dgn2000

Change webserver port

  • After changing the webserver port the page hangs. Is there something to be followed by the change?
    After changing the webserver port, e.g., to the port 65000, this have to follow the Ip address or the hostname with a colon. In the delivery state with the hostname websteckdose this would look so:
    websteckdose:65000

Network settings

  • The LAN connection functions, but WLAN has got no connection to the router. What can be possible causes?
    The network name (SSID) and wireless password must not contain the following special characters:% & [ ] ; 
  • The Web-Electrical-Socket cannot be reached with the hostname. How can I appeal to the Web-Electrical-Socket, if  the IP address is unknown?
    Some routers do not control the local DNA resolution. You can find out the IP address if you open the command console under Windows and via arp-a you can find out with the help of the indicated table about the Mac address which is to be found on the ground page of the Web-Electrical-Socket.

  • Is it possible to switch the sockets via http?
    Yes it is possible.

    For example the host name is websteckdose:

    websteckdose/cgi-bin/schalten?steckdose_nr=1&steckdose_soll=1
    In this case socket 1 would be switched on.

    websteckdose/cgi-bin/schalten?steckdose_nr=1&steckdose_soll=0
    In this case socket 1 would be switched off.

    websteckdose/cgi-bin/schalten?steckdose_nr=2&steckdose_soll=1
    In this case socket 2 would be switched on.

    websteckdose/cgi-bin/schalten?steckdose_nr=2&steckdose_soll=0
    In this case socket 2 would be switched off.

    websteckdose/cgi-bin/schalten?steckdose_nr=3&steckdose_soll=1
    In this case socket 3 would be switched on.

    websteckdose/cgi-bin/schalten?steckdose_nr=3&steckdose_soll=0
    In this case socket 3 would be switched off.

  • Is it possible to find out via http, wether a socket is switched on or off?
    Not only this.

    If the hostname is again websteckdose, then you receive after websteckdose/cgi-bin/status e.g., the following:

    WLAN_IP:--

    S1 – socket 1
    S2 – socket 2
    S3 – socket 3

    T – temperature
    LAN_IP: LAN Ip address that was assigned statically or by DHCP
    WLAN_IP: see to LAN_IP, in this example WLAN is deactivated
    BS1 - caption socket 1
    BS2 - caption socket 2
    BS3 - caption socket 3
    websteckdose – the hostname

  • Is it possible to get the current temperature via http?
    Yes it is possible. To keep the upper example with hostname=websteckdose, you get the current temperature with:
    websteckdose/cgi-bin/aktuelle_temperatur

Switch sockets via Windows cmd.exe

  • Is it possible to switch the socket with the Windows prompt?
    This is possible when you run for examplethe program curl with an attached URL at the command prompt. If we use the example hostname = websteckdose , then the input to switch on socket 1 would look like this:
    "curl.exe" "websteckdose/cgi-bin/schalten?steckdose_nr=1&steckdose_soll=1"

Update process until software version 3.1.8(.x)

  • The update process lasts longer than 10 minutes and the Web-Electrical-Socket cannot be appealed. What is to be done?
    Switch off the web outlet with the hardware switch and then switch it on.
  • Can I run the update from a distance?
    Generally yes, but it may happen that the Websteckdose, does not start properly after the update and you would then switch it off and again on with the green switch.

Update process from software version 3.1.9(.x)

  • After the software update, the message appeared that the system could be rebooted. I did that, but now I can no longer reach the Websteckdose. How to proceed now?
    Sometimes it happens that the system does not start properly after software update. Here it helps to disconnect the system from the power supply. For this, switch off the Websteckdose by using the green switch and switch it on again.
  • Can I run the update from a distance?
    Generally yes, but it may happen that the Websteckdose, does not start properly after the update and you would then switch it off and again on with the green switch.

Update process from software version 3.2.1(.x)

  •  What is meant by "bug fixes with the update process" in software version 3.2.1(.x)?
    When updating the software no problems occur. After this the Websteckdose can be restarted without problems and the update can also be performed from a distance now.
